State Sen. Jim Beach Visits Coriell Institute

12/2017

Coriell welcomed New Jersey State Senator Jim Beach for a tour of its Camden facility Wednesday.

The senator – who also serves as the Assistant Majority Leader in the New Jersey Senate – was interested in learning about the global impact of Coriell’s mission and the state-of-the-art science happening right here in Camden.

Coriell staff showed Sen. Beach its various laboratories, including the Coriell stem cell lab where high quality induced pluripotent stem cells are generated, the cytogenomics lab in which trained techs can observe and analyze an individual’s chromosomes, as well as our microbiology laboratory and sequencing and microarray center.

The tour finished in our cryogenic storage facility with a quick peek into a tank of biosamples. The facility is populated with high-tech freezers and liquid nitrogen tanks where DNA and cell samples are frozen in a suspended state. Samples from this facility are sent to researchers around the world to assist their research.

Coriell is always happy to host policy makers and other parties who are interested to learn about our mission and the exciting science that is being conducted right in the heart of Camden.
