Stacey Heil

Associate Director, Business Development

I have detailed knowledge of sample management including comprehensive hands-on experience in laboratory processes from the establishment of mammalian cell lines through quality control, long-term storage and shipment to researchers worldwide. During my tenure in the cell culture laboratories at Coriell, I improved laboratory efficiency and sample quality by refining work-flows and developing key standard operating procedures. Additionally, the graduate degrees I have earned in Biotechnology Management and Business Administration have enabled me to add a refined understanding of both the science and business of biotechnology to my unique skillset and biobanking expertise that provides an advantage in managing the daily operations of a large complex biorepository with exceptional judgment and foresight.

My laboratory knowledge is paired with extensive biorepository management experience coordinating cross-functional teams, monitoring timelines and milestones, engaging in outreach efforts, and communicating directly with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with contract specifications, best practices, and IRB requirements. I have supported the advancement of the NINDS Repository by taking the lead in the management of many specific sub-collections including the cerebrovascular sub-collections of Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT), Cerebral Cavernous Malformation (CCM) and the Epilepsy samples submitted from the EPGP/Epi4K Consortium. My work in managing  submitted samples from the EPGP/Epi4K Consortium required collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders and the maintenance of records to coordinate the shipment of more than 4000 samples of DNA back to submitting Investigators to support their research. More recently, I lead the management of more than 2,000 African American cerebrovascular disease and control DNA samples from the REasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) project for incorporation into the NINDS Repository.
