Available Products

The NIGMS Repository offers many different types of cell line and DNA products, as shown below. Please see the following product outline for more information about the cell lines and DNA products available from the Repository. View all catalog-available products here.

Cell Lines

  • Lymphoblastoid Cell Lines (LCLs)

    • Generated from the EBV transformation of lymphoblasts, derived from clinical peripheral blood samples. Genomic stability is maintained in the generation (PMID: 22374857), and expansion (PMID: 30075799) of these cell lines. Available as live cell cultures, frozen for a selection of samples, and cell pellets as a custom service.

    • See Lymphoblast Culture FAQ here.

  • Fibroblasts

    • Isolated from skin biopsy tissue samples and established as fibroblast cell lines in culture. Available as live cell cultures, frozen for a selection of samples, and as cell pellets as a custom service.

    • See Fibroblast Culture FAQ here.

  • Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs)

    • Created using various reprogramming techniques, and carefully monitored to adhere to rigorous quality control standards. iPSC lines are available for apparently healthy and disease specific parental lines. Isogenic controls of patient-derived samples have been generated using CRISPR/Cas-9. Each line is accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis and specific protocol for handling. Learn more here.

  • Other Cell Types

    • Melanocytes: Isolated from foreskin tissue samples. Cell type is defined by histology, in which >80% of cells stain positive for HMB45 (gp100). Learn more here.

      • See Melanocyte Culture FAQ here.

    • Keratinocytes: Isolated from foreskin tissue samples. Cell type is defined by histology, in which >80% of cells stain positive for pancytokeratin. Learn more here.

      • See Keratinocyte Culture FAQ here.

    • Amniotic Fluid-Derived Cell Lines: Established from samples of amniotic fluid taken during fetal development.

      • See Amniotic Fluid-Derived Cell Line Culture FAQ here.

    • Human/Rodent Somatic Cell Hybrids: Generated by the fusion of human and rodent cell lines, and characterized by G-banded chromosome analysis and in situ hybridization. Learn more here.

  • Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded (FFPE) scrolls

    • Prepared by the sectioning of cell pellets which have been embedded in paraffin wax and fixed by formalin. Designed for DNA extraction and genomic analysis alongside clinical FFPE samples. Learn more here.
