Studying Cancer with the 1000 Genomes Project Data

08/2022

In the first study, published in the British Journal of Cancer, scientists used 1000 Genomes Project data to look for inherited risk factors for prostate cancer in people living around the world. The authors present evidence that screening for several prostate cancer risk variants in diverse patient communities may be helpful in assessing risk and determining treatment options.

In the second study, published in Genes, scientists used 1000 Genomes Project data to investigate inherited factors involved in different types of breast cancer. The authors present evidence that this new risk information may be useful in personalized risk assessment for patients with several different types of breast cancer.

The first article, “Associations between circulating proteins and risk of breast cancer by intrinsic subtypes: a Mendelian randomisation analysis” by X. Shu, et al., was published in the British Journal of Cancer.

The second article, “Correlation between Genomic Variants and Worldwide Epidemiology of Prostate Cancer” by G. Vieira, et al., was published in Genes.
