Remarks |
Large white domestic breed. The age of the donor is estimated. The thoracic aorta was removed immediately post-mortem on 10/15/85. Strips of the medial layer were removed, minced, and used as explants to initiate the culture. Cell morphology is fibroblast-like. The karyotype is 38,XX with 2% of the cells examined showing random chromosome gain. The culture tested positive for alpha-smooth muscle actin and negative for the endothelial cell-specific von Willebrand factor (immunofluorescence assays). For lifespan determination this cell line was cultured on gelatin-coated flasks and the medium was supplemented with crude ECGF (0.11mg/ml) and heparin (0.1mg/ml). The legacy karyotype description shown in this Remark may not be representative of the current available product. |
