Remarks The IMR-90 line was established on 7/7/75 using explants of minced lung tissue obtained from a clinically normal 16 week fetus. The karyotype is 46,XX; normal diploid female. No variant isoenzyme patterns found for lactate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase, 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase; G6PD is isoenzyme type B. The HLA type is A2, B12, BW40, B5. Reverse transcriptase was not detected. The maximum number of population doublings achieved to senescence range from 58-73. Earlier passage IMR-90 cells available only with permission of NIA: see guidelines in Science 196:60-63 (1977). The legacy karyotype description shown in this Remark may not be representative of the current available product.
