Clinically affected; beta-thalassemia intermedia; diagnosed at birth; 1-2 blood transfusions in childhood; transfusions increased over lifetime with over 100 performed by age 54 years; splenectomy at age 29 years followed by cholecystectomy 3 months later; pulmonary hypertension; hypothyroidism; endocrinopathies; abnormal GTT levels; eczema on elbows and knees; abdominal pain; hepatomegaly; hemoglobin electrophoresis results: HbA = 84.7%, HbA2 = 4.9%, HbF = 10.4%, HbS = 0%; hemoglobin = 7.8 g/dl; MCV = 59.7.
