Remarks |
Line HIVE-35. The iliac vein was removed from a braindead, heartbeating cadaver, organ donor on 9/24/84. The donor died of head trauma and had no known diseases. The culture was initiated using cells released from the lumen of the vessel by collagenase digestion. Cell morphology is polygonal. Most cells were positive by immunofluorescence assay for endothelial cellspecific von Willebrand factor. Some cells were positive for alpha-smooth muscle actin (1% at PDL 19 and 1% at PDL 43). The culture was grown on on gelatin-coated flasks and the medium was supplemented with 0.02 mg/ml crude ECGS and 0.05 mg/ml heparin. Cells were frozen in growth medium containing 7.5% polyvinylpyrrolidinone and 5% DMSO. |
