Repository NIA Aging Cell Culture Repository
Subcollection Alzheimer's Disease
Alzheimer Disease With No Family History
Biopsy Source Calf
Cell Type Fibroblast
Tissue Type Skin
Transformant Untransformed
Sample Source Fibroblast from Skin, Calf
Race White
Relation to Proband proband
Confirmation Clinical summary/Case history
Species Homo sapiens
Common Name Human
Remarks The donor presented a 7 and 1/2 year history of progressive mental deterioration typical of Alzheimer's type senile dementia. At autopsy, Alzheimer's plaques were observed in the hippocampus and temporal cortex along with neurofibrillary tangles and Hirano bodies. The biopsy was taken post-mortem from skin of the right calf. The culture was initiated on 3/8/82 using explants of minced tissue. The cell morphology is fibroblastlike and the karyotype is 46,XY; normal diploid male. The culture is frozen at PDL 14. The legacy karyotype description shown in this Remark may not be representative of the current available product.
